Sharpstown is a 4,000 acre tract of land located in southwest Houston off Highway 59. The subdivision was developed by Frank Sharp and his partners who bought the land in 1954 for a housing development of 15,000 homes. Frank Sharp offered to donate a 300-foot-wide right-of-way strip through Sharpstown for the construction of the southwest freeway.
