The average homeowner will sell and move on the average every 5 to 7 years. There are many reasons why you may want to move. They include facing foreclosure, home is to small, job transfer, neighborhood changes, empty nest, Health problems, cash in equity, lifestyle changes, etc.
The Plan
Before you place your home for sale, you need to have a plan for finding your new home. Find out what homes are selling for in the community you are moving to. That way you will know how much money you will need. Add in moving costs and any other expenses you may occur.
Exit Strategy
Do you need to sell your home before you move? Will the purchase of your new home be contingent upon the sale of your home? If your home does not sell quickly can you afford to move into your new home? These issues need to be addressed in the way your home is marketed and in the contract for purchase of your new home.
