History
The Montrose District was created in 1911 by J. W. Link of the Houston Land Corporation, when he purchased 250 acres of land outside Houston. Mr. Link envisioned Montrose as a planned community and streetcar suburb of Houston. His main street Montrose Boulevard became the home of prominent Houston families such as the DeGeorges and the Lee Brothers. The Lee Brothers family home on Montrose Boulevard is now the administration building of St Thomas University. This colorful family was led by W Howard Lee who married Hollywood movie stars Hedi Lamar and Gene Tierney.
