REALTOR® Lobby Day at the Capital 2011
On Tuesday April 12, 2011 the Texas House and the Senate recognized Realtors in their Chambers. I don’t know the exact number of us who attended, but I can tell you we will be remembered. Since most of us endured bus trips of 3 hours are more, our number one priority was in getting to the bathrooms. From the minute we arrived at 9:30am till we left at 3:00pm the lines to the bathrooms stretched halfway across the building. Anita MonCrief ACORN whistle-blower spoke in Houston
I had no idea who Anita MonCrief was as we arrived to hear a talk on what went wrong with ACORN. My interests were not political but more curiosity about what happened. All I knew about ACORN was that they were a non-profit HUD/Fannie Mae approved agency that helped low to moderate income families become homeowners. Bank of America was proud of their connection to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). National Flood Insurance Program needs revision
The National Flood Insurance Program is 19 billion dollars in debt today. The program continues to provide insurance for homes which have flooded and been repaired many times over the years. Spencer Gaffney of the Washington Bureau stated “ Between 1977 and 1995 the National Flood Insurance Program paid out $806,591 for repeated storm damage to a suburban Houston home that was value at $144,480. Children need to be taught a Fire safety plan
the Executive Director of the Houston Fire Museum told me that children who took part in the Fire Museum’s safety program were 80% less likely to die in a home fire than children who had not had any fire safety education. Tristan explained that small children in The Fire Museum’s Program are taught that when a smoke detector goes off in the house to make an orderly exit.
