Houston Builders built 20,685 Homes in 2010

Houston Home Builders filed permits for 20,685 homes in the Houston area in 2010, representing a 5 percent drop from the total in 2009.   Buyers saw mortgage assistance programs drying up, credit requirements rise, and the homebuyer tax credit expire.

The number of housing permits filed by builders in 2010 and change compared with the previous year:

The number of monthly housing permits filed by builders in the Houston area fell from 2,160 in December 2009 to 1,515 in December 2010 a 30% drop.  The outlook looks good for 2011 with builders starting new communities in Richmond, Cypress, and Houston.
