Bellaire currently has a city manager style of government. The city council is made up of the mayor and six city council members. The Bellaire Fire Department includes two fire engines (a main engine and a volunteer/backup engine), and two medic units. Bellaire has it’s own police department which offers the “House Watch Program,” where interested residents allow police to check their houses while they are away on vacation. Teas Garden is located in the Houston Independent school district.
A few of the original one story homes built in the late 1940’s survive today. Teas Garden has newly constructed homes everywhere. Many of Bellaire’s showcase homes built by Hersh Levitt, Richard Price, Parker & Parker and Levitt Robbins are located in this luxury subdivision of Bellaire. There are Spanish Style, English stucco homes, French, and contemporary homes nestled among the non-through and horseshoe streets. These new homes are priced from $1,000,000 to $1,200,000. They vary in square footage from 4,000 to 6,000 square feet. The original homes sell from a lot value price of $270,000 to $400,000 depending upon size and location.
