THE WOODLANDS COMMUNITY INFORMATION

LOCATION

The woodlands is a master-planned community located 23 miles north of inner-loop Houston. From Houston or Bush Intercontinental Airport, go north on I-45 or the Hardy Toll Road to the Woodlands Parkway exit (76B) and take the flyover directly into The Woodlands. From the north, take the Woodlands Parkway exit (76), and go south on the feeder road until signs direct you to turn onto Woodlands Parkway.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

The Woodlands is an unincorporated area operating independently of city government under the umbrella of The Woodlands Township. The Woodlands Township provides the following municipal-type services such as:
• Police and fire protection and emergency services
• Park, pathway and streetscape maintenance
• Coordination of one of the nation’s most successful Neighborhood Watch programs
• Enforcement of the community’s covenants and architectural controls
The funds necessary to provide these services come from taxes charged to residents according to the area in which they live and the value of their home. There are also associations and Residential Design Review Committees for each village that promote village events and maintain the integrity of homes and neighborhoods.

VILLAGE LIFE

Community and convenience play important roles in The Woodlands experience. Each village setting includes easy access to wonderful parks, playgrounds, schools, religious congregations and shopping. Trails and pathways connect many of the amenities found in the villages nestled among beautiful homes and towering trees.
To experience village life in The Woodlands, take a drive through the residential neighborhoods on a sunny afternoon. You’ll see families cycling along the bike trails or walking their dogs, shopping at the local village center, picnicking and kite flying at the neighborhood park. There’s a pleasant flurry of activity that evokes a friendly, welcoming place. No matter what the day brings, chances are you’ll only have to travel 10-15 minutes in any given direction to buy a birthday gift, go to a worship service, pick up your dry cleaning, or visit a friend and her new baby at the hospital. It’s about convenience, and so much more. It’s about community.
If you are shopping for a new home in The Woodlands, you will have a choice of neighborhoods that range from golf course, to lakeside, to the urban setting of Town Center, to an exclusive gated community. In Town Center, the ‘downtown’ of The Woodlands, The Woodlands Mall offers more than 200 retailers in both indoor and outdoor settings. Inside the mall, there are five popular department stores – Dillard’s, Macy’s, Sears, Forever 21 and JCPenney, in addition to an extensive list of popular apparel and specialty shops, like Ann Taylor, Talbot’s, Coach, Banana Republic, Abercrombie & Fitch, Chico’s, the Apple store, Sony Style and many more.
The indoor-outdoor lifestyle area leads to a turning basin on The Woodlands Waterway®, where you can hop aboard a water taxi to travel to other attractions in Town Center. The lifestyle area features boutique shopping at Anthropologie, Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, Banana Republic, Barnes & Noble, Urban Outfitters and other great shops. Trendy restaurants like PF Chang’s China Bistro, Brio Tuscan Grille, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar feature indoor and outdoor seating on The Waterway.
Nearby in Town Center, there’s the 34-acre “Main Street-styled” Market Street, a popular shopping, dining and special event venue. Here, you can stroll along and enjoy leisurely shopping at places like Sur La Table, Maggie’s, Borders, Charming Charlie’s, Z Gallerie and Tiffany’s (coming soon). When you get hungry, you can choose from casual fare like Potbelly’s and Chipotle or la Madeleine and Café Express. Eateries like Tommy Bahama’s Restaurant & Bar and Jasper’s lend a note of sophistication to dining on Market Street’s Central Park, where jazz concerts and other community events add to the festive atmosphere. There’s also HEB Woodlands Market, where fresh produce, meat, seafood and bakery goods are a specialty.
In the Pinecroft Center near The Woodlands Mall, large stores like Target, Toys ‘r’ Us, Marshalls Mega Store, Best Buy, Cost Plus World Market, Ulta and Office Max combine with smaller retailers in one convenient location.
And of course, there’s the convenience of shopping for groceries and other necessities at your own village center. Almost every village has one, and they all offer great grocery stores, drug stores, dry cleaners, gift shops, restaurants and professional offices, so if Fido needs to visit the vet, it’s only a short drive away.
